Welcoming Dr. Shuhrat Otajonov from the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care

We were honored to host Dr. Shuhrat Otajonov, Deputy Director for Research at the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care, who visited our institute together with his student.

One of the major challenges in hospitals is the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Continuous antibiotic use leads to mutations, resulting in highly resistant strains and an increased risk of hospital-acquired infections.

During the meeting, we discussed collaborating on applying plasma technology to combat hospital infections. Our scientific team is actively conducting research on using cold plasma for medical applications.

Our partners have developed a low-energy plasma reactor, which was kindly shared with us for testing. The hospital also provides facilities for in-vitro and in-vivo experiments, opening great opportunities for applied plasma studies.

Literature shows that reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) generated by plasma can effectively inactivate a wide range of pathogens. What will our results reveal?

We are optimistic — positive outcomes are on the horizon!
